On July 7th, Guangzhou municipal government approved the city's three-year plan for boosting new infrastructure development. 23 key tasks and 17 measures were launched to focus on 5G, AI, industrial Internet, and smart charging infrastructure.
Aimed at becoming a model city for developing digital infrastructure, Guangzhou will build a variety of new infrastructures with high efficiency and low cost by 2022, covering fields of production, life, technology and smart city.

For instance, regarding to 5G, more investment will be put into the development and construction of infrastructure including 5G base stations, 5G private networks and smart lamp posts. By 2022, a total of 80,000 5G base stations will be built, with an investment of over 30 billion yuan.
In order to build an AI industry cluster in the Greater Bay Area, the city will develop 8 key industries such as smart robots, smart hardware; 10 AI industrial parks and more than 50 leading AI companies in the country. The whole industry scale is estimated to exceed 120 billion yuan by 2022.
As for charging outlets, is the region will encourage several big charging operators to grow by means of merging and acquisitions. By 2022, the city will see more than 4,000 public charging stations, with over 50,000 relevant facilities, and the capacity will reach 2.5 million kilowatts.
According to Zhang Hongwei, deputy director of Guangzhou Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, the city will support the new infrastructure with the measures of developing a number of application projects, building a new smart city platform, encouraging information consumption and so on. Priority in resources including land usage, talent and capital will be dedicated to the related areas.
The city has also set up a specific project library for new infrastructure. At present, it includes 54 projects, with a total investment of about 260 billion yuan.
In detail, 89 projects are included in 5G sector, with an investment of about 97 billion yuan; 66 projects included in AI with investments of about 28.1 billion yuan; 50 projects in industrial Internet field with investments of about 7.6 billion yuan; 9 smart charging projects with an investment of about 3.6 billion yuan and 40 projects in other fields with investments of about 118.6 billion yuan.
