The Guangzhou Railway Museum is officially open to the public on May 18. Renovated by the team of He Jingtang, an academic with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, it is the largest-scale railway-themed museum in Southern China, covering an area of nearly 30,000 square meters. Here are some highlights of the Guangzhou Railway Museum.
Two indoor exhibition areas are the original repositories of the railway station. One is made up of five exhibition halls, responsible for displaying the century-old history of Guangzhou's railway development, and the other exhibits the heritage and items in the field of the railway industry. In open air, the showpieces include a series of railway-related devices such as carriages and rail tracks.
The open-air exhibition area shows steam-driven railways, the chair cars of YZ22-typed green train, railway crossings and a display wall covered by the train direction plates.
Located on the bank of Pearl River in Guangzhou, the museum was built on the site of the century-old Huangsha Station, maintaining the basic appearances of the buildings of the Huangsha Station, which was put into use in 1907.
