Guangzhou Opera House (GOH) will join hands with QFunTheater to establish an R&D team, create and launch children's dramas, promote children's comprehensive ability, and provide kids with opportunities for stage performances and domestic and international artistic exchanges.
According to GOH, this new children's theater will open its enrollment program soon. In addition, the musical drama "Materia Medica" jointly produced by QFun Theater and GOH is scheduled to premiere at GOH next January.
"There are countless possibilities we can explore in the theater, and our children's theatre budding project is one of them," said Chen Rui, deputy manager of GOH.
At the inaugurating ceremony of the new children's theater, famous Chinese actor Xu Zheng encouraged everyone to get involved in the theater. "Theater is for healing, and everyone needs a stage to showcase themselves."
In recent years, Qfun Theater has been producing stage works adapted from classical Chinese literature and seen from the viewpoint of children. The troupe has also participated in several well-known drama festivals, such as the Festival d'Avignon, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (TPAM), and the Wuzhen Theatre Festival.
This July, QFun Theater's new stage adaptation of "Flowers in the Mirror" was successfully staged at the GOH. It subsequently kicked off a tour from Guangzhou to Beijing, with the new members of the cast recruited by GOH, becoming an opening of the collaboration between the two theaters.
Many parents of troupe members believe that the troupe has given their children the opportunity to create and express themselves, and their children have become more confident and independent after joining the troupe and performing on stage.
