Recently, Guangzhou has rolled out a pilot trial of digital RMB on public transport and some major scenic spots in the city, marking the first in the country to launch this kind of function.

Currently, digital RMB users can take 10 sightseeing bus lines and the Haizhu Tram Line 1 by swiping the QR codes in the e-CNY APP to pay. The bus routes are as follows:

●Sightseeing Bus Line 1/62/131B

●Tourist Bus Line 2/287/107/243//541/222/230

According to the municipal transportation authorities, these bus lines will take tourists to the top scenic spots in Guangzhou. The trial will be expanded to more places given how it goes in the first period.

By now, only the China Construction Bank wallet account supports the service. Other commercial and online banks will also provide the service in the e-CNY APP soon after technological tests.

The digital RMB wallet can be used to top up the Yangchengtong Card (Guangzhou’spublic buscard) and pay tolls at the six stations of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Expressway, that is, Qingfeng Station, Chaoyang Station, Jianggao Station, Shenshan Station, Xinhua Station, and Haibu Station.

In addition, it can also be used to buy tickets at some scenic spots and give payment at retail stores there. At present, the e-CNY APP is supported in such tourist attractions as follows.

●Baiyun Mountain

●Yuntai Garden

●Sun Yat Sen's Memorial Hall

●Guangzhou Zoo

●Hat Peak Mountain Forest Park

●Shimen National Forest Park

●Liuxihe National Forest Park

●Baijianghu Forest Park

●Canton Tower

●Haizhu Wetland

●Hoi Tong Monastery

The trial operation will end on August 27 in the above-mentioned places. Starting from August 28, it will be officially launched. During this period, tourists can enjoy a 10% ticket discount twice with the discount capping at 15 RMB.

Since the digital RMB pilot scheme launched in Guangzhou in April this year, its application scenarios have been greatly diversified. All you need to do now is download the e-CNY APP and make sure you sign up to it in advance!
