This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chevening scholarship, which has enabled over 4,000 Chinese students to study a one-year master's programme in the UK, with the next application window opening in August 2023.

The Consulate is also set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the English Premier League's launch, the number one football league online in China, with an audience reach of over 80% of Chinese football fans. Through a range of public screenings, cultural events, and social media campaigns, the Consulate aims to strengthen the bond between the UK and China.

The UK's exports to China have increased by 17% in the year ending Q3 2022. The annual trade in goods between Guangdong and the UK has reached 22 billion USD. In South China, the UK is the second largest European investor and trading partner.

The UK's Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is committed to exploring more opportunities to deepen business links, leveraging the UK's strengths in innovation, education, life sciences, financial services, green technologies, and creativity.

DBT has announced its sector priorities for 2023, aimed at strengthening UK-China collaboration in key areas of mutual interest. The priorities include energy and climate, financial and professional services, retail, education, infrastructure, and technology. For instance, China and the UK will hold government-to-government dialogue and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UK-China CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) Centre in the energy and climate sector, while a series of events will be held to promote bilateral cooperation in financial services and education sectors.

UK visa demand remains strong from China, with over 65,000 Visitor visas, 4,709 Work-related visas, and 102,842 Student visas issued in 2022.
