In order to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, a series of festival celebrations in Guangzhou kicked off on January 24. By the end of February, more than 2,500 cultural and tourism activities will be launched to the public, covering traditional customs, flower appreciation, trendy leisure activities, performances, and other cultural and artistic events.
Fireworks display & Folk custom activities
After a 12-year hiatus from centralized fireworks display, Guangzhou will again hold the Spring Festival fireworks show on February 10, 2024, the first day of the Chinese New Year, from 20:00 to 20:45 at the White Swan Lake .
Reservations are required for this fireworks display. People can follow the WeChat public accounts "中国广州发布 (zhong guo guang zhou fa bu)" and "广州荔湾发布 (guang zhou li wan fa bu)" for details.
Additionally, Nansha District will hold a maritime fireworks display and drone performance in Mingzhu Bay, and more fireworks shows will be held in Guangzhou Sunac Resort, Bishuiwan Hot Spring Resort, and so on.
During the Spring Festival, the city will also hold over 900 folk custom activities to enhance the festive atmosphere, such as the Yuexiu Temple Fair, a Tang-style lantern fair at the Grandview Mall, and the dragon and lion parade in Conghua District.
Flower appreciation
Nearly 1,200 flower appreciation activities are held across the city. From January 31, flower markets in Guangzhou's eleven districts will open until 2:00 am on February 10.
Meanwhile, residents and tourists can also participate in the Cherry Blossom Festival at Habitat Creek Scenic Spot in Huadu District, the 31st Guangzhou Garden Expo at Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area, South China National Botanical Garden's rare and precious flower exhibition at the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center, etc.
Tourist attractions
Various scenic spots will also launch colorful festive activities. For instance, the BONSKI amusement park at the Guangzhou Sunac Resort will not only provide skiing and snow entertainment programs, but also introduce winter delicacies in northeastern China like frozen pears and frozen persimmons, so that visitors can immerse themselves in another kind of Chinese New Year atmosphere.
Performances
Throughout the Spring Festival period, Guangzhou's major theater troupes and performing venues will present over 100 cultural performances. Notable shows include the Guangdong music performance at the King's Palace exhibition area of the Nanyue King Museum, the ethnic dance drama "Awakening Lion" by the Guangzhou Song and Dance Theatre, and the ballet "Yellow River" by the Guangzhou Ballet. Chimelong International Circus, comprising performers from 23 countries, will showcase award-winning circus acts.
Apart from these, museums, memorial halls, art galleries, and libraries in Guangzhou will also launch a variety of holiday activities during the Spring Festival. Many cultural and tourism enterprises and scenic spots will also offer ticket discounts during the festival.
