Five popular tourist attractions in Guangzhou have permanently lowered their ticket prices since September 10. You can make the most of your upcoming weekend by visiting one of them.
1. Liurong Temple
Located on Liurong Lu of Yuexiu district, the Liurong Temple, or the Temple of Six Banyan Trees, enjoys a history of over 1,500 years. The well-preserved temple boasts an impressive 17-story wooden pagoda, called Huata, or Flower Pagoda. The 58 meter-high pagoda features beautiful carvings, balconies and 1,000 Buddha statues.

2. Museum of the Nanyue King of the Western Han Dynasty
Covering more than 17,400 square meters, the museum displays more than 400 pieces of cultural relics unearthed from the tomb of Nanyue King. Hidden 20 meters underground, the tomb is made up of 750 huge stones, all decorated with colorful murals. Discovered in 1983, it has yielded more than 10,000 burial artifacts, a chariot, gold and silver vessels, and ancient musical instruments. Known as a model of site museums, the museum of the Nanyue King has won six building awards at home and abroad.

3. Guangzhou Opera House
Guangzhou Opera House is a masterpiece of Zaha Hadid, the first female winner of the Pritzker prize for architecture. As a cultural icon of Guangzhou, its signature boat-shaped design blends perfectly with the modern skyscrapers near Huacheng Square.

4. Liwan Museum
Located near Lychee Bay Park, it is the first district museum in Guangdong province. The museum is made up of three exhibition areas. The first used to be the residence of a businessman named Chen Lianzhong, with a courtyard of Lingnan characteristics and villas of western style. The second is a Xiguan Folk Customs House, which displays Cantonese-style furniture, as well as local cultural items and folk customs. The third used to be the residence of Jiang Guangnai, a patriotic general in the Republic of China.

5. Baijianghu Forest Park
Covering an area of 11,000 mu (about 1,812 acres), the park is a primitive forest park perfect for recreation, health care, and science education. Visitors can ascend a mountain in the park through a 3.5-kilometer greenway, or walk along a 4-kilometer footpath beside the river. They also can take a sightseeing car to enjoy tall trees, green bushes, waterfalls and craggy stones on their way to the mountain top.
