A helicopter service between Guangzhou and Hong Kong was launched on Sept 26 at the fixed-base operator (FBO) of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

The service is expected to make the transportation system in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area more three-dimensional and efficient and boost connections among cities in the area.

An Airbus H135 helicopter was used in the route's maiden flight. It departed from the FBO of the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and landed at the heliport of the Shun Tak Centre in downtown Hong Kong after a 50-minute flight.

A ticket for the helicopter service will be 10 times the cost of taking a ground vehicle, according to Heli-Eastern, the operator of the helicopter service.

The helicopter service is expected to meet the needs of businessmen and play an important role in emergency rescues. It will also be used for tourism purposes, allowing tourists to enjoy aerial views of the region's distinctive scenery.

A helicopter service between Guangzhou and Macao will also be introduced in the future and will cater to trade and business exchanges throughout the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
