The inaugural Yangtze River Delta International Emergency Disaster Reduction & Rescue Expo will be held in Shanghai from May 7 to 9, the organizers announced during a news conference on Wednesday.

More than 300 companies and institutions will exhibit their products and technologies in six sectors, including protective equipment, emergency rescue equipment and disaster reduction service, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).

A summit and a dozen forums about topics such as nuclear emergency management, urban safety and risk prevention in megacities will be held alongside the expo.

The expo will also hold an education exhibition for the public and launch a week-long education campaign to mark China's national day for disaster prevention and relief on May 12.

The municipal and provincial emergency management bureaus in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui and the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai will jointly organize the expo.

A special zone will be dedicated to the achievements of the cross-provincial coordination of disaster reduction and rescue in the Yangtze River Delta. As the region has many rivers and lakes, water rescue will among the highlights of the expo.

The mascot for the expo — a dolphin wearing a helmet with a safety light — was also unveiled during the news conference.
