The Southeast Asian Culture Festival was held at the Nansha Bird Park in Guangzhou on April 15, attracting Southeast Asian youth in the city to participate.

Students of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies gave performances featuring Thai, Indonesian, Lao, Malay, Vietnamese, Burmese, and Cambodian cultures.

Southeast Asian foods such as Vietnamese spring rolls, Thai coconut jello, Lao papaya salad, and Cambodian sour soup were presented at food-tasting stalls. There were also handicraft stalls, national costume shows, and water-sprinkling activities during the event.

Songkran Festival, a traditional festival in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, was celebrated during the event. Participants sprinkled water to express blessing to each other.

"This event promotes the cultural exchanges between Laos and China and I hope we can hold more cultural activities in the future," said Vanhpheng Saisomphou, Consul General of Laos in Guangzhou. She noted that a memorandum between Nansha District in Guangzhou and Sanamxay District in the Lao province of Attapeu was signed earlier this year. And cooperation between the two districts will be strengthened, especially in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and education.

In addition, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Guangzhou Nansha Association of Trade in Services signed an agreement on the establishment of the Greater Bay Area-ASEAN Youth Entrepreneurship Practice Base, which aims at providing employment opportunities and stimulating cultural and economic exchanges between Nansha District and countries under Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
