Guangdong received over 45 million visits during May Day holiday

Guangdong during the May Day holiday (April 29 to May 3) received 45.46 million visits, with a year-on-year increase of 77.9%, according to the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province.

During the holiday, Shenzhen jointly launched the "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Joint Tour" with online platforms and transportation companies, distributing 5 million RMB in coupons for cross-border tourism consumption, allowing tourists to visit the two cities with a single ticket.

Zhuhai provided discount for group tours. And Zhongshan launched eight tourism routes and distributed more than one million RMB worth of scenic spot tickets and cultural products.

In Guangzhou, the Pearl River Cruise received nearly 180,000 visitors, up 1,224% and 72% from the same period last year and in 2019 respectively. Chimelong Tourist Resort received nearly 520,000 visitors, a year-on-year increase of 556%.

Guangzhou Zoo and Chimelong Safari Park were among the top family-friendly destinations during the holiday, and key attractions such as Canton Tower, Yongqingfang, Beijing Road, and Baiyun Mountain also set new historical highs in visitor numbers.

Seven professional art troupes performed 55 shows at different attractions in Guangzhou. The new Guangzhou Cultural Center staged the music and instrumental poem "Sai Long Duo Jin," and organized nearly 100 public welfare cultural and recreational activities for the public. The Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Theatre performed the historical Cantonese opera "Princess Wencheng," immersing citizens and tourists in traditional art and history. The Guangzhou Museum also launched its first "Midnight in Guangbo" live broadcast activity, attracting 40,000 viewers in a 1.5-hour network broadcast.

During the holiday, various rural tourism destinations in Guangzhou attracted a large number of tourists. Huadu District launched five routes for vacations and held activities such as music concerts, markets, cycling, and exhibitions, satisfying the longing of urban tourists for a leisure rural life. Conghua District focused on food and flower viewing, holding the first tourism food festival, parent-child music concerts, and music bonfire festivals, and inviting tourists to visit rural scenic spots to enjoy the colorful flower seas.

Camping has become a feature of Guangzhou tourism, with Guangzhou's Beiwai 23.8 Forest Camp, Beiji Camping, and Yisen Camping among China's top ten popular camping sites. Nansha District and Conghua District jointly hosted the 2023 Nansha Bay Camping Culture Tourism Season, while Nansha District also distributed 100,000 consumption vouchers. Zengcheng District launched experiential activities such as RV camping, spring outing and cherry blossom viewing, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in natural scenery.
