A key step was made in the construction of the fourth bridge linking the Macao Peninsula and Taipa Island in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday.

The north main bridge steel beams were successfully connected, laying a solid foundation for the completion and opening of the entire bridge on schedule, according to one of the companies involved, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The bridge will serve as a crucial node in Macao's urban transportation system and an important connection for traffic flow.

It is built to the standard of a two-way, eight-lane urban expressway. The total length of the bridge is approximately 3.08 kilometers, with the cross-sea section spanning about 2.86 kilometers and the main bridge measuring 1.37 kilometers.

After it opens, the bridge will significantly alleviate the pressure on Macao's road network and greatly facilitate travel for residents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
